Convex hull based distance metric learning for face classification

Distance metric learning is an important topic invisual classification tasks. Learning an appropriate distance measure cangreatly improve the performance of image recognitions. In this paper, we modelan image set as a regularized convex hull and propose a distance metric learning method for face recognition based onregularized convex hulls. In particular, a regularized point-to-convex hull distancemetric (RCHPSD) and a regularized convex hull-to-convex hull distance metric(RCHSSD) are introduced to measure the distance between the query image object and the existing image sets for image classification tasks. The coefficients indistance metric are solved by an approximate optimization strategy. Two SVM-like distance metric learning models are constructed and transformed into the standard support vector machines to learn distance metric matrix in RCHPSDand RCHSSD. Positive and negative sample pairs are proposed to represent distance metric matrix. Experimentson the Extended Yale B and YouTube databases show that our proposed RCHPSD andRCHSSD can effectively improve the performance of image recognitions.

主讲人介绍：

王长忠，男，教授，渤海大学数据科学研究中心主任，数学学科带头人；哈尔滨工程大学博士生导师，东北大学特聘教授，“兴辽英才计划”科技创新领军人才（辽宁特聘教授）。毕业于哈尔滨工业大学数学系，主要研究方向为：机器学习、不确定性推理、模式识别、大数据分析方法。

先后主持和完成国家自然科学基金面上项目4项(其中一项为国基子项目)、主持和完成辽宁省自然科学重点基金、辽宁省高校优秀人才支持计划等省部级课题十几项。获批专利和计算机著作权5项。出版专著一部。曾多次赴香港理工大学电子计算学系和澳门科技大学计算机系进行访学。

先后在《IEEET ransactions on NNLS》、《IEEET ransactions on Fuzzy Systems》、《IEEE Transactions on Cybnetics》、《Information sciences》、 《Fuzzy sets and systems》、《中国科学》等国内外重要学术期刊和国际会议上发表论文60多篇。其中，被SCI检索的论文30多篇，被ESI高被引论文6篇。截止目前，所发表的SCI论文被Web of Science数据库他引1000多次，单篇论文被引次数最高为300次多次。曾获得辽宁省自然科学学术成果论文类一等奖3次和二等奖多次。应邀担任多个国内、国际学术会议程序委员会委员，中国医药数学会辽宁分会常务理事，人工智能基础学协会专委会委员，中国人工智能学会专业委员会委员，中国自动化学会多粒度与多尺度分析专业委员会委员，国家自然科学基金函评专家。
