ABA vs. ethylene in plant senescence and fruit ripening

The gaseous plant hormone ethylene has generally been regarded as the ripening factor that regulates senescence and ripening in plants. The hormonehas been the major focus in postharvest research and application. However, it is well documented that a huge class of fruits, vegetables and flowers arenon-climacteric without a surge in ethylene production during ripening and senescence.Increasing lines of evidence show that ABA has a more important role in ripening and senescence than ethylene. The speaker will present related supporting evidence and discuss how ABA is involved in regulating ripening and senescence in both climacteric and non-climacteric crops.


主讲人介绍:

甘苏生,博士,美国康奈尔大学教授,现任MolecularHorticulture主编。国际知名的植物衰老机制研究专家,主要研究领域为植物叶片黄化和衰老过程中的分子调节机制,其研究成果在延缓植株过早衰老和农作物采后贮存等方面有着广泛的应用前景。在Science、NatureBiotechnology、PNAS、Plant Cell、NaturePlants、Molecular Plant等植物学领域的国际顶级杂志发表高质量学术论文80余篇,总被引数11700余次,并获得多项专利。同时也是SenescenceProcesses in Plants一书(年度植物学综述)的主编,被加拿大科学院评为2011年度植物科学领域论文被引用率处于世界前1%的作者之一。曾担任6本国际学术期刊的编委。
